Success for Stockton as total crime rates fall

Stockton Borough authorities continue to make every effort in cutting down yearly crime figures. The Safer Stockton Partnership engages in first class work from areas of the Council, Police and Fire authorities to maintain a high standard of service throughout the Borough. Crimes relating to such matters as; criminal damage, robbery and vehicle theft have all seen a dramatic decrease from previous years, and the detection rate of drug related offences has risen by over 90%, an issue the partnership are really clamping down on to stop street dealing.

Despite a population rising of over 11,700, over the last 5 years the total crime rate for the Stockton Borough has reduced by 34%. In 2003/04 the total crime rate per 1000 population was 114.3 but for 2008/09 this stands at 75.6. This translates into 6,064 fewer offences, and henceforth, there have been 6,064 less victims of crime within the Borough.
