IS YOUR SCHOOL INVOLVED - IF NOT, WHY NOT?
Schools across the Borough are invited to take part in the 'Roach' Project ran by Stockton Council's Community Safety Team. The project uses 10 cockroach characters who depict types of crime and anti-social behaviour for example 'Vando' for criminal damage and 'Arso' for arson.
The project is aimed at Year 6 and 7 pupils and encourages young people to become good citizens, not commit crime and disorder and report crimes to Crimestoppers or on-line direct to the Council's Community Safety Team. Schools are offered a learning pack, and the Community Safety Officer will attend their citizenship lesson to give more information on crime and anti-social behaviour, and to promote the reporting of crimes by young people. The lesson gives pupils the opportunity to discuss in more detail the crimes that they come into contact with and to inform them the sanctions that could be used.
The pupils are also given a set of cards to swap amongst their class to gain a full set of 10 Roach characters. Each card shows the Roach, the facts on the type of crime or anti-social behaviour, and displays the Crimestoppers number.
To view mini movies of the Roaches, play a game that uses the Crimestoppers number in an innovative and fun way follow the link at the bottom of the page.
The Project has been piloted in Egglescliffe Comprehensive and is offered to all Year 7 pupils across the Borough first. It will also be adapted to Year 6 pupils firstly in Tilery Primary School and is offered to all Year 6 and 7 pupils Borough wide.
