SAFER Stockton Partnership is marking its tenth anniversary - and there is much to celebrate over the past decade.

The Partnership, led jointly by Stockton Borough Council and Cleveland Police, held its first meeting in July 1998 with the overall aim of reducing crime and disorder levels within Stockton Borough.

There have been many achievements over the past ten years, including:

  • A reduction of 65.9% in the number of dwelling burglaries between 1997 and 2007/08
  • A reduction of 63% in thenumber of vehicle crimes between 1997 and 2007/08
  • Stockton Borough now has the lowest overall crime rates among the five Tees Valley Authorities

Safer Stockton Partnership members, past and present, are meeting to mark the tenth anniversary and reflect on the work of the partnership over the decade.

Councillor Steve Nelson, Stockton Borough Council's Cabinet Member for Housing and Community Safety, said " The Safer Stockton Partnership has made a real impact across the Borough in reducing levels of crime and disorder and also reducing the fear of crime.

The Partnership has gone from strength to strength over the past ten years and the goal remains the same - to continue working to make Stockton Borough a safe place to live, work and visit."
